| Welcome to the official website of York Bassmasters. George Buetter, President York Bassmasters
On the last Thursday of every month, year round, we meet in the seminar room of Bass Pro Shops in the Vaughan Mills Mall. Here we discuss and plan our yearly club tournaments, Conservation projects and Casting Kids events. Every month we try to have a guest speaker, someone from the fishing industry who either manufacturers/sells tackle or an individual who has achieved some level of success in tournament fishing and is willing to share some of their knowledge with us.
The club tournaments are set out in a format through which our anglers can qualify to fish in the Ontario Provincial alongside anglers from other OBFN chapters. The top 13 anglers go on to form Team Ontario from which one angler has the opportunity to eventually compete in the "Superbowl of Bass Angling", the Bassmaster Classic. Our conservation project is presently a multi-year combined effort with the Bogart Creek Restoration Committee and the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority to restore Bogart Creek in Newmarket, Ontario to its once flourishing wildlife habitat. Removal of invasive plants and garbage, and preparation of the land surrounding the creek for replanting, as well as rehabilitating the fish ladder are all part of the ultimate goal. Through our efforts in our first year we were awarded the prestigious Conservation Award by the Berkley Conservation Institute at the 2008 Bassmaster Classic. This award is given to the one club that best exemplifies conservation efforts within the entire B.A.S.S. Federation Nation. One of the most enjoyable of our club activities is Casting Kids events. Here youngsters of all ages, boys and girls, can compete using very simple rules and equipment to win their respective age groups. The winners go on to the Provincial Championship where they again they compete exactly the same way with the winners going to the Federation Championships. The final piece to the puzzle is the Bassmaster Classic where the winning kids compete for prizes including scholarships and trophies. If you think you'd enjoy being part of a club such as ours, feel free to come out to one of our meetings, there's no obligation to join right away, but when you see what a great club York Bassmasters really is, we think you will. |
